Earlier this week, Kano state witnessed a remarkable two-day co-creation session, brimming with innovation and collaboration. In the heart of this transformative gathering, Blue Sapphire Hub’s Policy Innovation Center orchestrated an extraordinary event, captivating the minds of outstanding ecosystem players.
The prestigious occasion attracted an illustrious lineup of esteemed participants. Dignitaries, such as the esteemed permanent secretaries from various MDAs, directors, visionary CEOs, accomplished executive directors, and technical experts from diverse civil society organizations and private companies, graced the event with their presence. Their collective wisdom and expertise created an inspiring atmosphere, pulsating with the energy of progress.
Blue Sapphire Hub Research, recognized as a leading force in research and pioneering endeavors, played a pivotal role in orchestrating this co-creation session. Interviewer: Good day, Basmah Shehu! Thank you for joining us today. I’d love to learn more about your business, Boho World. Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
Basmah Shehu: Hello! Thank you for having me. I’m Basmah Shehu, a 22-year-old female entrepreneur based in Kano, Nigeria. I’m currently studying economics and development studies at FUD in Jigawa state. My passion lies in art, specifically digital and hand art with a unique bohemian twist.
Interviewer: That’s wonderful, Basmah. Could you provide a brief explanation of your business idea, the problem you’re addressing, and the solution you’re offering?
Basmah Shehu: Certainly! Boho World focuses on providing accessible art to individuals who appreciate my bohemian-style creations but may not be able to afford physical pieces. To address this problem, I offer printable art that can be enjoyed on portable items like phone cases, notebooks, and more. By leveraging technology, I also provide digital art prints and NFTs, expanding the reach of my art even further.
Interviewer: That’s a great way to make art more accessible to a wider audience. Could you share your startup mission and vision with us?
Basmah Shehu: Our mission at Boho World is to promote simplicity and elegance through art. We want to create a space where people can appreciate the beauty of bohemian-style artwork. Our vision is to establish a Bohemian Gallery, a physical location where individuals can immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere and aesthetics of our art.
Interviewer: That sounds like a wonderful vision, Basmah. Can you tell us about the traction your startup has gained since its launch? How many subscribers or customers have you acquired, and what is your current monthly revenue?
Basmah Shehu: Since we introduced Boho World in late 2022, we have been fortunate to gain 53 customers who appreciate our art and products. Currently, our estimated revenue stands at 50,000 NGN per month.
Interviewer: That’s impressive progress, Basmah. Now, let’s talk about your experience with the PitchStar Incubation Program. Have you noticed any changes in your startup since joining the program?
Basmah Shehu: Absolutely! Joining the PitchStar Incubation Program has been a game-changer for my business. It has helped me gain a clearer understanding of what my business is all about and how to effectively manage it. The program provided me with valuable guidance, insights, and resources to improve and grow Boho World.
Interviewer: That’s great to hear. It’s always beneficial to have support and guidance during the early stages of a startup. What would you say is your favorite thing about the PitchStar Incubation Program?
Basmah Shehu: There are several aspects that I truly appreciate about the program. First and foremost, the courses offered have been invaluable in enhancing my business knowledge and skills. Additionally, the networking opportunities provided have allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals and potential collaborators. The presence of mentors and facilitators has been incredibly helpful, and I’m grateful for their guidance. Lastly, the Demo Day gave me a platform to showcase my business and gain exposure.
