Women Founders Conference is startup Kano’s annual event that brings together bright minds to give talks that are idea focused and on a wide range of subjects, to foster learning, inspiration and wonder to provoke conversation that matter among women in the ecosystem.

The theme for the Second edition of Women Founders Conference 2017; #INSPIREDBYAWOMAN, and was hosted in the largest Mall in West Africa (Ado Bayero Mall) on Friday 15th December, 2017 with a massive turnout of participants and rock star speakers from different works of life ,who shared a practical experience and story to budding entrepreneurs and other founders present at the event.


The event started at 10am with the opening speech from the conference director Startup Kano Co-Founder Aisha Tofa,

followed by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano Dr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi ably represented in person of  Hakimin Nasarawa (MD Freedom Radio, Kano) Alh. Abbas Dalhatu. Our keynote speaker Her Excellency Aisha Babangida, Chairperson Better Life Program, who really inspired and motivated all the women present, Dr. Hauwa Lamino, (Chairperson Emerging Young Entrepreneurs) shared her story and experience running an agribusiness based startups across Africa.

The conference took a paradigm shift, when Nura Samaha, a young and vibrant fashion designer that she believe “she is fashion herself”, was introduced to the gathering as the youngest founder who came to Startup Kano about 8 months ago and is now undergoing incubation at Startup Kano Hub. She made a quiet display and presented her inspiring story to the women present at the conference and  also paraded  a wonderful presentation of her dresses with models wearing her costume.

Our second speaker Farida Yahaya a woman of substance and the Founder, Program Coordinator for Jamuje, a citizen led initiative that provides solutions to the most devastating problems in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Food and drinks were served from the amazing kitchens of 3Meals Culinary Kitchen and Hafsy Saffron Event Management, which till date we still have calls from participants about their addresses to get more of what they tasted at the conference (lol). They are super amazing.

An extensive  fire side chat was discussed by two prominent women founders entrepreneurs ; Hafsat Ibrahim, the famous Hasfy Safron and Bahijja S Bawa, from Bee-Jay Makeups Kano.The event was concluded on the need for women founders and entrepreneurs to embrace the culture of partnership and collaboration in the ecosystem.

Last year on the 14th of December 2016 we hosted the maiden edition of Women Founders Conference at Ado Bayero Mall Supported by NITDA’s OIIE and it made history. The first of its kind, Business Women gathering in Kano which was graced with women entrepreneurs, founders and strong business women who came and share their practical stories, how they got started, what inspired them and what challenges they faced.

Women Founders Group Hosted Women to Digital Social Wednesday

Women Founders Group hosted its first edition of Social Wednesday. An event that brings women in business together to train them on digital and social media skills that will assist them to boosts sales and productivity.

Social Wednesday is a medium for women especially those without any form of the tech skills to learn the various strategies and techniques and use these new skills to build a better business and re-enforce their digital marketing.

The event will held at Startup Kano hub. It was a unique opportunity for women entrepreneurs and techies to arm themselves with valuable knowledge which is no doubt essential in today’s world.

The event saw about 50 women in attendance. Some of them took the medium to express their lack of inclusion in tech related activities. The Lead of WFG Miss Aysha Tofa offered her advises and encouragement to the women and urge them to always strive t o learn technical skills.
